Sikeston Public Schools Foundation will have its 11th annual homecoming tailgate starting at 3 p.m. Friday on the tennis court parking lot next to the SPS football field and pavilion.

“I am beyond excited about this year’s Homecoming Tailgate,” said SPS Foundation Executive Director Lauren DeWitt. “We have over 44 sponsors this year, a lot of them being new to the tailgate.”

General admission is $5. The tickets do not include admission to the football game as those tickets will be sold separately.

“The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about the Foundation and most importantly, raise money for our district,” DeWitt said. “We raise funds to help ease the financial stress for our teachers through teaching grants. We base our donations on how they will make an impact academically in our kiddos.”

The tailgating event continues to grow each and every year, DeWitt said.

“That makes me so happy and proud. I have a wonderful and hard-working board who make this job so fun and so rewarding. We want to make a difference and I think our future is bright,” DeWitt said.

SPS Foundation board members include: Amy Blanton, Scott Crumpecker, Bart Grant, Chris Hodgkiss, Norma Miles, Matt Tanner, Kelly Williams, Steve Williams and Michelle Worth.

“We have some really exciting things going on Friday night and an announcement that will literally knock your socks off,” DeWitt said. “Stay tuned.”

Lots of area businesses will be tailgating to support the SPS Foundation, and among those is the Missouri Delta Medical Center.

In addition to barbecue nachos and a “loud” giveaway,MDMC will havea “Paws” for a Cause raffle, according to Laura Dennis with MDMC. The hospital is selling chances to win a custom-designed wooden sign that will make a perfect addition to any Bulldog fan’s home, Dennis said. Tickets are one for $1 or six for $5 and 100 percent of the ticket sales will go to the Sikeston Bulldog Pantry, which supplies children in the school district with food, clothing, and other necessities. One winner will be drawn Friday before the game and you don’t have to be present to win.

For those who can’t make it to Friday’s tailgate, the sign will be on display in the hospital gift shop and tickets will be available for purchase during normal gift shop hours, through noon on Friday.
