Students from Sikeston High School took part in the annual Youth in Government Day on Friday, tackling the roles of city council member, public safety and city staff members. Part of their day was an opportunity for the students to learn from their real-life counterparts about their jobs. The students put what they learned to the test as they tackled the issue of using shipping containers as homes. Here, Spencer Williams, as mayor, calls on a Sikeston resident who was asking a question during the meeting while city manager Giselle Galang (left) and councilman Claire Hamlin (right) look on. The council voted 5-2 to restrict living in shipping containers but allowing them for other uses where zoned.
