Sikeston Career and Technology Center welding technology instructor Brent Trankler has been named a semifinalist for the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools 2018 Prize for Teaching Excellence.

Trankler is one of 52 semifinalists that are comprised of public high school teachers and teacher teams from across the country.

“I am beyond excited to get this far and honored to be selected, “ Trankler said. “What Harbor Freight is doing for Career and Technical Education is nothing short of amazing. The support I have received from everyone has been overwhelming. I am truly appreciative and will do my best to proudly represent them all.”

Trankler said he will have another round of video responses (question and answers) and the final winners will be announced Nov. 15.

There will be 18 prize awards — three first place prize awards of $100,000 with $70,000 going to the public high school skilled trades program and $30,000 to the individual teacher/team and 15 second-place prize awards of $50,000 with $35,000 to the public high school program and $15,000 to the teacher/team.
