Sikeston R-6 announced today that Mr. Kyle Wagner will be the next head football coach. The district began the task of searching for a new head coach after the resignation announcement of current head coach, Terry Flannigan.
The district held interviews with students, parents, staff, and administration to help in the selection process.
“Mr. Wagner’s passion, energy, knowledge, experience, and innovative thinking convinced the district hiring committee he was the right choice for the district.” said Dr. Tony Robinson. “Serving on the staff of elite programs in the state of Missouri, we believe will lead to the future success of the Sikeston Football program.”
“Sikeston is a proud community that strongly supports its school system.” said Principal Noe. “We have amazing students and coaches in place who are required to build an excellent program the community can rally behind. Coach Wagner brings with him an impressive resume and energy which could bring innovation, creativity, and excitement to our program.”
Mr. Wagner has held the positions of strength and conditioning coach, special teams coordinator, defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, and head coach.
Mr. Wagner had this to say to the Sikeston community, “I would like to say thank you to Dr. Robinson and the entire Sikeston community for choosing me to lead our program back to excellence. My family and I are excited to join the Bulldog family and make Sikeston our new home. There is a lot of work ahead. There are a lot of relationships to be built. There are a lot of connections to be made. There are a lot of wins in our future, both on and off the field. I will be home soon! Our town. Our time. Blessed to be a Bulldog!”
Mr. Wagner will begin his duties this summer, following the resignation of Flannigan, who has served as Sikeston’s head coach for the past two years.
