Whitson is new head golf coach at SHS

Sikeston R-6 School District announced on Wednesday Marvin Whitson will be the next head golf coach at Sikeston High School.

The district began the task of searching for a new golf coach after the resignation of current head coach Chris Cota.

The district held interviews with students, parents, staff, and administration to help in the selection process.

"I’m honored to take on the role of head golf coach,” Whitson said. “I would like to thank the selection committee for entrusting me with this position.”

Whitson’s teaching experience includes serving 14 years as the eighth grade BARC teacher at the Sikeston Alternative Education Center. His coaching experience includes working as the assistant golf coach for four years at Advance High school and five years at Poplar Bluff High School.

“I look forward to working with the returning players next year and I am going to ensure that every player has the opportunities that they need to succeed,” Whitson said.
